Laundry re-doBy Mermaid Jennifer
"Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty violent image there. I think if you've got a T-shirt with a bloodstain all over it, maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem. Maybe you should get rid of the body before you do the wash." - Jerry Seinfeld
The Laundry Room
Is laundry a dreaded task in your home? It typically has been in mine - until recently. This spring we decided to replace our 20 year old washer and dryer with newer - and larger capacity - models. With the new appliances came an opportunity to re-organize the laundry and to spice it up. I'm fortunate in that my laundry room offers both organization and storage options.
However, our laundry room had become a dumping ground for all items without a home. We needed to get it cleaned up. Dragging in the piles of laundry each week was drudgery because the folding counter was piled in junk, and the machines were ancient.
Before
Here's our laundry room before - plain, boring, and messy.

We are fortunate to have cabinet space and shelving, along with a utility sink. We just needed to get a little more organized...

Small appliances from the kitchen are stored in the laundry, along with food that typically lines the shelves.
Our laundry room after a little TLC

The walls were painted a soft green to match other rooms in the home.
A new washer and dryer make a big difference!

The folding counter was cleared of piles of batteries, un-used appliances, and cleaning supplies.

An Uppercase Living vinyl cling was added to wall to give laundry some levity.

One wall was painted brown to match another wall in the home.
A hanging rack was added to hold bathing suits and towels.
A little organization does go a long way to making laundry more fun - even if it is still quite a chore! What have you done to make laundry work for you in your home?
