{Dive into Serving Others}
"Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the September-October issue of Mermaids of the Lake we are exploring the joys of service. The magazine is filled with essays, quotes, and loads of snippets about the good reasons for giving. (Of course, there's all the other super cool stuff we always have in there, too - recipes, beauty tips, and more!) We believe that when one person freely gives to another a system of unity and bonding occurs. By doing so, the reservoirs of hope and well-being are filled. And, by serving others we help them to reach for a better day.
"There is no better exercise for your heart than reaching down and helping to lift someone up." ~Bernard Meltzer
May your heart do well! ~Mermaids Debbie Nania and Shelley Hepler

Shoetacular Event
Our event, If the Shoe Fits…Wear It! was an amazing success! When we entered the event floor and saw hundreds of guests laughing, having fun, and shopping at the vendor tables, we were excited. But, when the lights came on and Ed Clark hit the stage singing his composition "It's All About the Shoes," we knew it was going to be amazing. Please visit the story to see a gallery of photos and details from the fun-filled, fantastic evening.

New Shoes for Worthy Kids
All of the hoopla of the If the Shoe Fits...Wear It! event was to raise funds for Shoes for Kids, a community-wide effort to put new shoes on underprivileged school children. Who would have guessed that such humble beginnings and a desire to give back to the community, would be so impactful in the lives of so many! Read all about the generosity of individuals and local businesses and the
children who benefited in Shoes for Kids.

Thank You Teachers!
Speaking of those who serve, who gives more than our teachers? Now that the kids are back to school and well into their routines, we want to share how much of an impact these worthy individuals have. We asked some of our readers to share the story of the one teacher who really made that huge difference in their life. Read the collection in Inspiring Teachers. Also, see how teachers specially influenced the lives of Ed Clark and Kathleen Cavender. Thank you teachers! May this be your year to help shape a child into the brilliance of what he or she will be!
