Collection of Mermaid's Make It Articles

Make it: Huckleberry Bears scrounge for them, the Native Americans loved them, and the Mermaids feel privileged to live among them: huckleberries. This tangy little berry comes from the heart of the Northwest, the place we call home.

Make it: A Salad Bar Hosting a big event this season? Consider serving a salad bar. It allows everyone to have exactly what they want. And, as the host, you get to join the group to socialize rather than fret in the kitchen.

Make it: Thai Food The food of Thailand is a joy to the senses, combining the aroma of lemongrass with the pungency of brilliant red chilies and the magical flavors of coconut milk and fresh basil.

Make it: Slow Cooking Whether you are an on-the-go mom, working woman, or just a smart and organized cook, using an electric slow cooker allows you to make yummy meals with a minimum of preparation time.

Make it: Home Canned  Probably most all of our grandmothers and great-grandmothers and their mothers before them canned produce. Home canning has regained its popularity with a new generation of home canners.

Make it: Ice cream You scream! I scream! We all scream for ice cream! We all love ice cream because it's fun. Mermaid Shelley gives some great tips for making your own and for throwing an ice cream social. Great summer fun!

Make it: A picnic The word picnic conjures images of warm weather, Frisbees, kids on swings, and fun food spread out on blankets or park tables. Sometimes a picnic can be a romantic get-away for an intimate lunch or dinner. However you look at it, a picnic is a great way to have a huge amount of enjoyment while spending a small amount of money.

Make it: Mexican ˇOlé! Cilantro, chili peppers, cinnamon, cumin, garlic and honey. Eating authentic Mexican cuisine is a feista.

Make it: Salad Summer is winding down, but the veggies are at their best. Eating salads is a great way to enjoy the colors of the garden.

Make it: Pumpkin The flavor and image of pumpkins shouts, "Fall is here!" Read on for some fun recipes using Fall's favorite vegetable.

Make it: Holiday turkey This time of year turkey definitely takes center stage. Preparing it is surprisingly easy. Here are some good guidelines when you decide you want to tackle that turkey!

Make it: Fruitcake! Mermaid Shelley has never quite understood why fruitcake gets such a bad rap. To her it is a real treat.
